Locarno Film Festival
On-demand solution for visitors
Every year, the Locarno Film Festival (LFF) manually arranges numerous transfers for its visitors. During a meeting to finalize the details of the contract renewal, the option of on-demand transport was presented. This piqued the interest of the festival organizers, who recognized its potential as a mobility solution for event visitors. We were then asked if we could find a solution to automate travel management.
Initial situation
-
The Locarno Film Festival needs to guarantee effective and efficient mobility for its visitors and the various delegations.
-
Mobility is assured thanks to a fleet of cars provided by one of the event’s sponsors. The challenge is to manage the requests from the various visitors and delegations.
-
To ensure guests’ peace of mind, the reservation system cannot include ride-pooling.
-
The solution must be cost-effective and facilitate mobility staff’s work within the Locarno Film Festival.
-
The delegations attending the Locarno Film Festival need to be picked up from different locations (hotels, restaurants, etc.), which poses a challenge for the reservation system.
Objectives
- To offer a simple and cost-effective solution for managing mobility within the Locarno Film Festival
- To ensure interaction between stewards and drivers for the benefit of guests and delegations
- To develop a pilot project and business model for increasing services in other regions in Ticino and Switzerland
Results
- Journeys: 690
- Passengers: an estimated 2,500 passengers were transported during the 10-day event. As the app is designed for individual end users rather than reservation via an intermediary, and because we decided not to offer ride-pooling, we had to limit the number of passengers per vehicle that could be reserved by each individual user.
- Reservations: 1,097
- Cancellations: 407
- Requests: 1,746
- No offer: 107
- No reservation: 542
Duration of the project
The project ran from 7 to 17 August 2024, in conjunction with the Locarno Film Festival.
The service was available from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., and 13 vehicles were used.
