The 31 electric buses, introduced this year on the network in Western Switzerland, will now fully reveal their potential. For the public and users, the most important benefits are the protection of the climate and air quality, through the reduction of CO2, pollutants and the use of renewable energy sources, as well as the cutting of noise pollution. In the spring, Sion became the first Swiss city to have a fully electric PostBus service, with 20 electric buses in operation. This summer, more of these vehicles have taken to the roads of lower Valais. In the autumn, the transformation was launched in the Aubonne and Moudon regions. This electrification strategy, supported by the municipalities, cantons and the Confederation, is in line with the goals of PostBus to convert its entire fleet of vehicles to alternative drive systems by 2035.

Overall, the timetable of the Western Switzerland network will not be subject to major changes, with the main aim of the update being to better align services with the needs of users.

Canton of Vaud in full flow

As mentioned earlier, the electrification of the network began this autumn with the delivery of six electric Postbuses divided between Aubonne and Moudon. The switchover is in accordance with PostBus’s nationwide goals and is fully aligned with Vaud’s climate plan. Aside from this transformation, the Vaud network will not undergo any major changes, following the substantial expansion of services at the last timetable change. The emphasis will be on optimizing and improving the flow of certain routes.

Lavaux-Oron

  • Over the course of this year, route 384 was extended and now connects Palézieux-Village with St-Martin (FR). The expansion relates more specifically to the section between Palézieux-Village and Oron-la-Ville. At Châtillens railway station, a newly served stop, connections to and from Lausanne will be available for each journey.

La Broye

  • Route 561 from Romont (FR) to Payerne will systematically serve the village of Rossens.
  • The Payerne local bus service will be expanded in the city center. Specifically, route 572 linking Payerne, Aeropôle to Payerne, hôpital will now serve the city center.

Canton of Fribourg: bus service for the new railway station and initial electrification

The PostBus network will be optimized overall. The opening of the new railway station in Avry-Matran last November will allow users in the region to benefit from an expanded service. Route 460 between Romont (FR) and Avry and 462 between Romont (FR) and Avry will be adapted accordingly.

In the Swiss German-speaking part of the canton, a new, fully electrified depot will begin operating in the first half of 2026. The Guin-Morat-Laupen region will see the electrification of 10 vehicles, which will be the first electrification undertaken by PostBus in the canton.

Canton of Neuchâtel

The changes mainly concern the lower part of the canton and are intended to meet demand.

The service will be expanded:

  • on route 380 from Neuchâtel to Locle, during the day, to better serve pupils and students using the route;
  • on routes 612 between Gorgier-St-Aubin and Areuse and 613 between Cortaillod and Perreux, on Sunday evenings, to ensure connections at Yverdon-les-Bains railway station throughout the year;
  • on route 640 linking Gorgier-St-Aubin to Provence, in the evening during the week.

Canton of Valais: electrification, canton as a role model

Valais is sending a positive signal at national level, with 43 electric vehicles set to run every day on Valais roads by the beginning of 2026. Electrification, already underway in the upper part of the canton, began in the French-speaking part this year. The Valais capital is now home to a fleet of 20 electric vehicles - thanks to the pioneering commitment of the city of Sion and the support of the canton. At the end of the year, there are five electric Postbuses in the regional transport service, divided between the Sion-Martigny route and the Martigny-Dorénaz route. Upper Valais will continue its switchover with Brig and the surrounding region. The transformation of the PostBus network is supported by the Canton of Valais’s mobility service, which is pursuing a policy to decarbonize public transport. Various improvements will also be made to the entire Valais network to better meet the needs of users.

Lower Valais

  • In order to make the Dorénaz cable car more attractive, connections between cable cars, buses and trains have been improved. Route 220 will benefit from additional weekday services.

Central Valais

  • With its new fleet of electric vehicles, the Sédunois urban bus network is expanding its service with the addition of journeys, particularly in the Gravelone area, and expansions in the evening and summer. This development meets the needs of the capital’s population (more detailed information will follow). In addition, isireso-sion, the Sion urban hub’s fare network, is extending its free entry to all zones, from 5 p.m. on Friday evening to midnight on Saturday evening from 19 December 2026. The tourist route 383, which connects Les Haudères with Ferpecle, will offer two additional pairs of journeys on the Forclaz-Ferpècle route during the summer. And route 428 connecting Granges (VS) to Lens is adapting its service in line with the level of demand.

Upper Valais

  • A number of timetables have been improved to better meet the needs of passengers and ensure greater stability in day-to-day operations. Among the main changes: the Simplon tourist route, 631, from Brig to Gondo will be expanded with new journey pairs. During the summer season, from June to October, two pairs of journeys will expand the service to Domodossola. And route 623 from Brig to Mund will offer a new service in late evening, on Fridays and Saturdays, in both directions, which should delight night owls. Finally, the municipalities of Brig-Glis, Naters and Bitsch will welcome their first six electric local buses, which will make Brig the second city in Valais (with its agglomeration) to be fully electrified.

MOBIJU: adaptation of the service in the Jura

The PostBus service operating under the MOBIJU name is being adapted to meet the needs of users by reducing its journeys in off-peak hours. The canton already submitted these new timetables for consultation in May 2025. In addition, timetables have been adjusted to better accommodate SBB connections at Porrentruy and Delémont railway stations.
