Astrid Mauchle – right in the middle of PostBus’s booming airport region

The Postbus stop at Zurich Airport tops the passenger rankings for Switzerland. The six Postbus routes to the airport are booming. Astrid Mauchle (57) leads the team at the Winkel ZH depot and has a key role to play. Together with her 50 drivers, she keeps the 20-hour operation running smoothly.

Her passengers are setting off on holiday, commuting to jobs in the airport area or making their connections. Astrid Mauchle has an exciting job with a lot of responsibility. The Postbus routes in her operational region around Zurich Airport are among the most frequently used in Switzerland. With 1.8 million passengers boarding and alighting at “Zürich Flughafen, Bahnhof”, the bus stop ranks number one in Switzerland (see box).

Astrid has enjoyed a varied career at Swiss Post. She joined the company 24 years ago as a mail carrier, went on to complete further training and later managed a delivery team. Three years ago, she once again felt the desire to take on a completely new challenge within Swiss Post. She was drawn to the world of mobility. She took over as team leader in Kreuzlingen TG and also trained as a driver last year to gain first-hand insight into the daily lives of the drivers. Although she has nothing but praise for the Kreuzlingen team, her career took a new turn this year: in August, Astrid Mauchle took over as team leader at the PostBus depot in Winkel ZH. Two routes departing from here also serve the airport.

Mushrooms and binoculars

Across Switzerland, PostBus has 100 team leaders for its driving staff. The team leaders have a very important role to play. They know the ins and outs of the operation and are the first point of contact for the drivers. “I like my job very much. I think our drivers do a top job. We all work together to keep the buses running for 20 hours of the day,” says Astrid fondly.

Astrid lives with her husband Fabian in Ennetach, Thurgau. Her sons Joël and Stéphane are adults – and Astrid is looking forward to becoming a grandmother for the first time in January. In her free time, she finds the forest is the best place to unwind. Right now, in autumn, it’s peak season for Astrid, who is a passionate mushroom picker. “My husband loves my mushroom dishes and he’s still alive,” jokes Astrid Mauchle. Outside of mushroom season, you’ll find her out and about birdwatching with her binoculars – a little echo of her work environment at Zurich Airport!
