New: introduction of the first electric buses

The first two of six planned electric vehicles have been running on route 1 Castione FFS–Arbedo–Bellinzona FFS–Camorino since 26 May 2025. The six Mercedes-Benz eCitaro vehicles are the first electric buses to be used in Ticino’s public transport network and will all be operational by the end of July 2025.

The new electric vehicles will save up to 146,000 litres of diesel per year, which equates to 383 tonnes of CO2 emissions. What’s more, the buses are extremely quiet and will be recharged at the depot only during breaks or at the end of their runs.

Four additional electric vehicles will begin operating on route 2 Bellinzona FFS–Monte Carasso–Sementina–Giubiasco FFS in mid-2026. The aim is to convert the entire Trasporto Pubblico del Bellinzonese fleet to electric power by 2030.
