Mini ticket machines in the Canton of Ticino
on buses and at the most important transfer hubs

Rich Content Section

Public transport tickets in the Canton of Ticino will no longer be sold by drivers by the end of 2026

From around the end of 2026, customers on Ticino’s public transport network will be able to buy tickets at new mini ticket machines, exclusively using digital payment methods such as credit, debit or charge cards. The transport companies ABL, AMSA, ARL, PostBus, FART, FLP, SNL and TPL are jointly procuring the new mini ticket machines.

Why are the transport companies buying mini ticket machines?

The systems currently used for ticket sales (ticket machines) have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced. Today, over 74 percent of customers use digital payment methods to buy tickets. For this reason, it makes no sense to install expensive machines that are used less and less and are also co-financed by taxpayers. The mini ticket machine is perfectly tailored to the current situation.

What types of tickets can be purchased at the new mini ticket machines? Just single tickets or travelcards too?

The mini ticket machines offer a limited range:

Single tickets

  • For one-way journeys
  • In 1st or 2nd class
  • For adults or reduced fares (e.g. children, senior citizens, Half Fare Travelcard)

Day passes

  • For a return journey on the same day
  • Also available in 1st or 2nd class
  • For adults or reduced fares

Additional tickets

  • For dogs
  • For bicycles

To ensure that tickets can be purchased quickly and securely, an optimized selection will be available on Postbuses. Travelcards can only be purchased at staffed counters or in the SBB online shop.
